About Christopher Boffoli

Northwest-based artist Christopher Boffoli creates clever photographic vignettes. His process for this conceptual fine art photography combines miniature, hand-painted figurines with staged arrangements of food and other out of scale objects.

He was inspired by the ubiquity of scale juxtaposition in advertising, cinema, and television, an old concept that goes back to “Gulliver’s Travels” in the 18th century.  Boffoli explores how contrasting the proportions of tiny people and their surroundings creates unexpected points of interest, tapping into mankind’s obsession with miniatures. These creative scenes evoke an uncanny, albeit theatrically portrayed, likeness to the world at large, accessing the universal nature of toys and food, two very common elements across cultures.

Boffoli also employs language to enhance the humor of his visual narratives. He often includes tongue-in cheek titles and captions that draw on old adages, colloquial expressions and witty repartee.
