Ed Cohen is a New York–based artist known for his luminous abstract paintings created with fluid acrylic. Working with a balance of intention and instinct, Cohen carefully considers color and composition before allowing paint to pour, merge, and settle organically across the canvas. The result is a surface that feels at once controlled and spontaneous.
Rooted in the legacy of postwar abstraction, his work moves beyond gesture for its own sake. Drawing on Zen Buddhist philosophy, each painting reflects a heightened awareness of presence and process. Biomorphic forms and circular motifs often echo the meditative practice of the ensō, suggesting wholeness and the beauty of the moment.
Cohen has exhibited extensively, including solo presentations at Winston Wächter Fine Art. His work is held in public collections such as the Princeton Art Museum, and he has completed major commissions, including a site-specific installation at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
