About Margeaux Walter

Margeaux Walter was born in Seattle, Washington and currently works between New York City and Joshua Tree, California. She uses photography, sculpture and performance to portray issues related to conservation, climate change, consumption, and waste. Her work is centered around playful interactions with the land that speak to the delicate balance between the environment and human life.

Walter received her MFA from Hunter College in 2014 and her BFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2006. Awards of note include Center Santa Fe (Environmental Award), Sony Alpha Female grant and Aesthetic Art Prize Shortlist and an ADC cube in 2022 for her NYTimes Work Friend series. She has been awarded artist-in-residence programs at Headlands Art Center, Montalvo Arts Center, MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, VCCA, Willapa Bay, JTHAR, BigCi in Bilpin, Australia (Environmental award) and at Joshua Tree National Park. Her work has been exhibited at institutions such as MOCA, Hunterdon Art Museum, The Center for Photography, The Butler Institute of American Art, Sonoma County Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, and the Griffin Museum of Photography. She is represented by Winston Wachter Fine Art in New York, NY and Seattle WA. Her work has been featured in publications including The New York Times, Wired Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, New York Post, Seattle Times, Boston Globe, Courrier International, and Blouin Art Info.
